Susan Sarandon Bio

It was 1968. Democratic Convention, and there was a casting call for a film with a variety of roles for young people who disrupted it. Two recent graduates from Catholic University in Washington DC went to the auditions in New York for Joe (1970). Chris Sarandon was not selected for the role, despite having prior studies in acting. His wife Susan got a major role.That performance was of Susan Compton, the daughter of ad executive Bill Compton (Dennis Patrick). Dad Bill kills Susan’s drug dealer boyfriend. Next, Joe (Peter Boyle) is a bigot who works on an assembly line, and also collects guns, becomes friends with Susan. Five years later, Sarandon makes the movie. Janet is a transvestite who gets involved with Dr. Frank n Furter (1975). After more than 15 years of having started her career, Sarandon finally fought for a starring role in the film Annie in Bull Durham (1988), flying on her own expense from Rome from Rome to Los Angeles. "It was an amazing script ... and removed a lot of myths and challenged the American definition of success" she told. "I went to the studio together with Kevin Costner and shook hands with his sexy assistants before boarding the plane. Tim Robbins, her Bull Durham (1988) actor, a supporting actor was her first lover. He was father to two boys by 1992. This placed Sarandon in an awkward position. She would leave her home to take on roles that were truly challenging. The result was four Academy Award nominations in the 1990s as well as the award for best actress for Dead Man Walking (1995). Her first Academy Award nomination was for Louis Malle's Atlantic City (1980).
